Sunday 14th of February 2021

There is no better time than when the world is spinning around a blanket of anxiety to experiment with the transformative power of breathwork. Milaidhoo Malidves is offering the tranquil setting of their tropical island to hone your skills with new expert-led workshops. The now trending art of controlled breathing known as Pranayamic breathing is believed to have positive effects on heart rate, stress levels and improving cognitive function and anxiety.

Milaidhoo is excited to incorporate this breathing technique first practiced by the Indian school of Ashtanga yoga into their wellness offerings and teach this transformative technique to guests. Through bespoke workshops and practices, guests will learn how to control their breath, resulting not only in the enhancement of Yoga practice but a range of health benefits including relaxation, reducing anxiety and improving blood circulation.

The program consists of workshops and practices aimed towards teaching how the mind and body are interconnected, suitable for guests keen on improving the capacity of their lungs and understanding how to use breath as a coping mechanism. Participants can indulge in a combination of high and low intensity breathwork removing negative feelings of anxiety and strengthening the respiratory system, promising mental clarity and inner peace at the end.

Resident Yogi of Milaidhoo, Shubh was born in the foothills of Himalayas in Rishikesh, where the culture is centered around a yogic way of life. With this deeply rooted in his upbringing, Shubh mastered his passion for yoga which brought him to the shores of Milaidhoo, its natural harmony perfect for immersing in breathing techniques of yoga. He will be guiding guests through thoughtfully designed techniques to help participants understand and learn to control their breathing in order to release any built up physical and psychological tension. According to Shubh, “Here, you truly have time to slow down and focus on the core elements of breathing and being present as you are free of everyday life’s distractions.”

Sessions can be arranged on request at Serenity Spa at any time of the day. Early risers can opt for a morning session with energy boosting techniques helping to prepare them for the day ahead, whilst afternoon practices help develop inner awareness and strengthen the mind and body through more gentle approaches. Available to take upon even after a full day of thrilling activities, an evening practice is the perfect way to truly unwind in preparation for a restful and deep night’s sleep.

The spa’s soothing environment, with stunning views across the Indian Ocean help to relax the mind and body and encourage guests to fall into a deeper meditative state during their practice. Not limited to the spa, Milaidhoo is known to elevate experiences hence allows guests to switch locations to the privacy of their deck, a secluded sandbank or even onboard a traditional Maldivian Dhoni.

Breathing skills developed at Milaidhoo will stay with guests long beyond their trip and can be easily practiced at home. The development of self-awareness and self-control through breathing can also help guests to overcome stressful and challenging situations in their own daily life.
