Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Cooperation (MITDC) ‘s Managing Direction, Ahmed Raid expressed the cooperation’s plan to develop tourism industry in the northern and southern region of Maldives.

Raid also stated that due to the longer commute it takes to reach the far islands has taken a toll in the tourism sector in those regions. Hence a lot of work is needed to be done to improve tourism for those regions. Furthermore, Raid also shed some light on the Home-Stay Tourism that has been getting high demand recently.

MITDC hopes to extend a helping hand for the island councils that target this tourism. Due to the delay of the approval for Land Use in some islands, the work with island councils are being delayed as per Raid. The Local Government Authority is doing their best in giving these approvals as Raid hopes to develop Tourism Zones in each island.

Concluding his statement, Raid expressed his plans on working under Joint-Venture with the Island Councils.
