Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has kicked off a Maldives roadshow in South Korea to promote the Maldives as a top destination for South Korean travellers. Under this initiative, the first roadshow was staged in Seoul on 21st June 2023 with a second roadshow due to be held in Busan on 23rd June 2023.
Eleven key companies from the Maldives tourism industry are taking part in the roadshow alongside MMPRC, exhibiting their various offerings to the South Korean market. This includes Angsana Velavaru LUX* South Ari Atoll, Madifushi Private Island, Maldivian Charter Club, Oaga Art Resort Maldives, Robinson Club Maldives Pvt Ltd, RIU Atoll & RIU Palace Maldives, The Cocoon Collection, The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort and Inner Maldives.
Through this roadshow, MMPRC and industry partners will be able to connect with potential tour operators and travel agents based in both locations, further strengthening trade relationships between the two destinations. As part of the roadshow, MMPRC conducted a social media contest in Seoul with winners having won Maldivian-themed merchandise.
Additionally, a raffle lucky draw was held during the roadshow with 2 winners awarded a free holiday giveaway to the Maldives. A second raffle draw will present free holidays to 2 additional winners in Busan as well. The holidays are sponsored by leading resort properties including Robinson Maldives, RIU Hotels & Resorts, Westin Hotels & Resorts and Cocoon Maldives.
Apart from these stunning events, the roadshow also displayed a Maldivian corner where visitors were able to sample different Maldivian snacks and explore the Maldivian culture through lacquer work. The main objective of this roadshow is to maintain South Korea as a prominent market for the Maldives and to strengthen stronger partnerships with travel agents and industry partners.
The event also aligns with MMPRC’s market strategies to promote individual products and showcase unique experiences to South Korean travellers. The South Korean market has historically been a key source market for the Maldives. At the end of 2022, the market was ranked as the 9th biggest market and is seen to show good interest in the Maldives this year as well with 13,335 arrivals by the end of May 2023.
