On 28th January, a project to expand and redevelop roads of the country had been initiated. The project was handed over to Roads Development Corporation (RDC).
Under the plan, the roads of Male’ City will be expanded with more parking spaces and space for pedestrians. This caters to one of the biggest issues in the capital of Maldives: lack of parking space.
This development would also prevent flooding, another severe issue. During last year’s December, the country faced one of the biggest flooding cases due to heavy rain. Soldiers from the military’s fire and rescue service were deployed to pump out floodwaters in the worst affected areas in the capital’s southwest.
The work was expected to commence before 29th January and will be started from the Maafannu West Park area. The whole project is estimated to cost around MVR 462 million.
