Qatar Airways is expanding its sports sponsorship portfolio to become the Title Partner and Official Airline of the GKA Kite World Tour for three years, as part of its goal to bring communities together through sport. The exciting collaboration brings together the skies and the seas to celebrate one of the most rapidly growing and exhilarating new sports. Many of Qatar Airways' global destinations are visited by the GKA Kite World Tour, including Brazil, Germany, the Maldives, Morocco, and Spain.
Qatar Tourism, the Official Tourism Partner of the Kite World Tour, is excited to welcome fans from all over the world in 2023 for the Visit Qatar Freestyle World Cup, which will be held at the new state-of-the-art kite beach resort in Fuwairit.
The mission of the GKA is to promote kite-surfing and other kite sports by making them more accessible and bringing world-class competition to every corner of the globe. This includes developing world championship events for freestyle, kitesurf, hydrofoil freestyle, and big air. There are currently three million active kiters worldwide, and that number is rapidly growing as more people discover the thrill of the sport.
“Kite-surfing is a travel sport where adventure seekers compete in beautiful destinations across many continents around the world. At Qatar Airways, we are proud to support this growing sport and become the preferred airline for athletes and fans travelling to GKA events all around the globe including Qatar, our home country, to experience something new and exciting.” Sharing his enthusiasm over the collab is the Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, and Qatar Tourism Chairman, Mr. Akbar Al Baker.
“There’s no better partner for the Kite World Tour than Qatar Airways, who share our passion for travel, sustainability, exploration, creativity, adventure seeking and competition,” said Dr. Jörgen Vogt, Secretary General of the Global Kite-sports Association. “Qatar is quickly becoming the global heart of sport, and we are excited to bring our World Tour opening and Finals to this epicenter in 2023,” he added.
A new world-class kite beach resort is set to open in Fuwairit in the near future as part of the commitment to this new and exciting partnership. The natural gem, located in the northeast of Qatar, is a well-known and ideal beach destination. Qatar Airways will host the Qatar Airways Big Air World Championships in Tarifa, Spain, this June to kick off the new partnership. The 16-day event will include the Qatar Airways GKA Awards ceremony and the Visit Qatar Kite Expo, making it the first of its kind in kite-sports.
