Raffle’s Maldives Officially Kick-Starts Their Community-Centric Project In Gdh.Atoll

Wednesday 17th of November 2021

For the first time in the history of the Gdh.Atoll, Raffles Maldives Meradhoo launches a one-of-a-kind community-centric project. The resort is pleased to announce the Raffles Maldives Internship Program, a specially curated and career-focused skills development initiative aimed at attracting and developing local communities' knowledge and interest in the hospitality industry by allowing young people to learn and rediscover their passion for the market.

The Raffles Maldives Meradhoo Internship Program was planned two years ago, when the facility first opened in 2019, but was put on hold given the global pandemic. As we enter the new normal, Raffles, in keeping with its philosophy of mobilizing local talent, officially began the program on November 5th, 2021 at the Gdh.Atoll Education Center.

The first batch of seven Interns were handed over their letters of appointment to begin their journey in the hospitality sector with the resort under the patronage of the General Manager at Raffles Maldives Meradhoo, Amila Handunwala and Director of Talent & Culture, Dhakshina Moorthy, as well as the School Principal, staff, parents, and students. Zaleef Abdulla, a local council member, was humbled by the efforts of a worldwide hospitality brand like Raffles in taking the initiative to nurture young talents, particularly in the deep south of Male, where considerable work in skills development in the tourist sector is needed.
