The government of Maldives has allowed locals who travelled to Male City before he lockdown to return back to their own islands. On 5th May, Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services published an announcement regarding how priority is given to those travelling under these circumstances.
According to the preference given in the list below, the first priority will be given to those who arrived Male’ on or after 1st April.
1) a) Persons who arrived Male’ with assistance of Aasandha or National Social Protection Authority for medical purposes.
b) Persons who came with a child less than 5 years of age for medical purposes and person who arrived to give birth and their family members.
c) Persons above the age of 65, who arrived for medical purposes, and their care takers.
d) Persons with disability and mental illness who arrived for medical purposes
e) Persons who arrived to treat a permanent health issue
2) a) Persons who had arranged transportation to their islands between 15th and 20th April.
b) Students and their family members brought back to the Maldives from foreign countries, who have completed 14-days quarantine.
c) Due to temporary closure of resorts, staff who arrived to Male for the purpose of returning to their islands.
3) a) Those who arrived Male after receiving jail sentence and unable to return back to island.
b) Those who want to return for other reasons such as unemployment.
c) Old age people or people with disabilities who are alone or have been assigned temporarily to someone else to take care of them.
d) Old age people and females who arrived male’ for personal reasons and have been living alone.
e) Due to financial difficulties resulting from the pandemic, those who need to change living to another island
