Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, a beacon of environmental stewardship, recently reached a momentous milestone in marine conservation: the establishment of the 500th coral frame in collaboration with Reefscapers, a leading authority in coral restoration consultancy appointed by the government.
Since its inception in 2020, the resort has been steadfast in its commitment to marine conservation, drawing support from Reefscapers, generous guests, and online sponsors. The recent event, hosted at the resort's Anchorage beach, brought together esteemed Marriott Bonvoy members, alongside distinguished British Photographer of the Year and devoted Marine Conservationist, Oliver Clarke.
The 500th coral frame is not just a testament to remarkable progress in coral restoration but also underscores the combined impact of the resort's sustained dedication to safeguarding the Maldives' fragile marine ecosystem. These collaborative endeavors have resulted in the successful rescue of an impressive 25,000 coral colonies.
In addition to the coral frames, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa takes pride in contributing to the construction of expansive human-made coral pyramids. These structures now serve as a new habitat for a diverse array of marine species, including blacktip reef sharks, stingrays, and various fish varieties.
Kate Sheridan, the Marine Biologist spearheading the project, highlighted, "The establishment of the 500th coral frame showcases the positive outcomes achievable through collective conservation endeavors. These initiatives not only safeguard existing coral colonies but also create thriving ecosystems that support a myriad of marine life, especially when coral reefs face increasing pressures."
Mohamed El Aghoury, General Manager of Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Our commitment to marine conservation is deeply ingrained in our values at Sheraton Maldives. This milestone is a reflection of the dedication of our team, the support of our guests, and the success of our partnership with Reefscapers. We are proud to contribute to the well-being of the Maldives' marine environment."
This initiative seamlessly aligns with Marriott International's "Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction" and "Good Travel with Marriott Bonvoy" initiatives, reflecting their overarching sustainability goals and the aspiration to make a positive impact on communities worldwide.
