Sheraton Maldives Celebrates Milestone Coral Frame Planting with KSL Team

Tuesday 5th of November 2024

Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa recently welcomed the ownership team from KSL Capital Partners for a special visit to explore the resort’s sustainability efforts and marine conservation programs. The visit included an in-depth session with the resort’s senior management, highlighting their ongoing commitment to environmental preservation.

A key moment of the visit was the ceremonial planting of the 700th coral frame in the resort’s thriving coral garden. This significant milestone marks an important achievement in Sheraton Maldives’ partnership with Reefscapers, an independent marine consultation company dedicated to restoring coral reefs globally. Through the Adopt a Coral program, Sheraton Maldives guests have the opportunity to contribute directly to marine conservation by adopting and planting coral fragments in the surrounding waters.

Under the guidance of Katelyn Hegarty-Kelly, a marine biologist from Reefscapers, the KSL team participated in the coral planting, further strengthening the resort's conservation efforts. The initiative involves biannual updates to guests, keeping them informed of their coral’s progress as it grows in the crystal-clear waters.

Since its launch in 2020, the Adopt a Coral program has become a key part of Sheraton Maldives’ commitment to sustainable tourism. By offering guests the chance to engage in hands-on conservation activities, the resort is fostering greater awareness and support for reef restoration, ensuring the future health of the Maldives' marine ecosystems.
