Visit Maldives launched an outdoor photo exhibition in two strategic cities in Russia in collaboration with National Geographic Traveller. Photographs taken by renowned photographer, Ivan Dementievsky from his visit to the Maldives in March and exquisite creations of Maldivian photographers are displayed at the exhibition.
Among these pictures spanning a collection of nature, tradition, heritage, local island lifestyle and various unique experiences offered in the Maldives, those of Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort and Spa stand out. The picture portrays one of the resort’s mega initiatives contributing to the revival of the most significant feature of the island, its coral reef.
In the picture, you can see the planted coral fragments from the Adopt a Coral initiative, a joint effort by the resort with Reefscapers. The mission is to promote reef habitats with the involvement of guests on the island in a fun and interactive coral-fragment plantation activity during their holiday.
The project is led by experts and offers a hands-on experience to participants while also providing an alternative business to the 250 inhabitants whose sole previous source of employment was fishing. The experience leaves a mark in guests’ memory as one of the most meaningful contributions on their vacation to bring about a positive change in the world.
