SKIN CANDY Maldives Introduces Maldives’ First Wellness Training Academy

Wednesday 29th of March 2023

Local sustainable organic skincare brand, Skin Candy Maldives with the support of globally acclaimed Elena Spas has introduced a ‘Wellness Training Academy’ in the Maldives. The pioneering initiative aims to educate and empower the existing and next generation of wellness therapists from directly among people living and working in the region.

Scheduled to be open this May 2023, the training academy will be led by Skin Candy Maldives with graduating therapists certified at the International CITBAC Level, which is considered the golden benchmark in the spa & wellness industry worldwide. Courses will run between May through September 2023 with the first course ‘Swedish Massage’ launched in May. This course is suitable for beginners too and is a CIBTAC-certified one.

An online Anatomy and Physiology module will serve as a pre-requisite for absolute beginners before enrolling in the courses offered at the academy. All other courses will be hosted face-to-face with each course certified by CIBTAC. Some of the courses featured in the academy include beginners’ Swedish massage, manual lymphatic drainage, trigger point therapy, myofascial cupping, deep tissue massage, hand & foot reflexology and deep tissue massage.

With spa resorts rapidly growing in the Maldives’ tourism scene and travellers paying more heed to wellness, the spa & wellness industry is in great demand for high-calibre wellness professionals. This is undoubtedly an exciting time to work in the thriving industry and Skin Candy’s core mission is to create graduates who are competent and qualified to function as professional therapists and practitioners while entering the wellness fields. Likewise, it will also give hoteliers and spa operators in the Maldives the chance to upskill their current wellness teams as well.

The courses will be facilitated by none other than Ms Martina Crkonova who has extensive experience in the field. She has spent 27 years in integrative and TCM medicine and has served as a therapeutic educator and trainer for 15 years. The top-notch academy is a fully equipped training centre, located just a 15-minute speed boat ride from the capital Male. Classes in the academy will be taken in personalized groups in a relaxing ambience with course fees covering everything from speed boat transfers to onsite lunch and the procurement of training uniforms.

“This initiative will help transform tomorrow’s industry by providing local Maldivians and current resort wellness staff with a level of education and resources, so they don’t necessarily have to travel abroad to expand their professional career. Our passion is sustainability,” said Ms Lubna Zahir Hussain, Founder of Skin Candy Maldives. ‘Our goal is to produce highly trained and knowledgeable wellness professionals with progressive career plans to grow within the wellness industry”.
