The Indian edition of the American luxury travel and lifestyle magazine, Travel + Leisure India & South Asia, is your go-to source of travel inspiration. As this year marks the 10th edition of Travel + Leisure India & South Asia’s reader’s choice India’s Best Awards, the magazine has introduced IBA Icons that felicitates 10 change-makers and trendsetters across hospitality & lifestyle industries.
Congratulations are in line as Sonu Shivdasani, the CEO and Co-founder of Soneva has been featured as one of the icons for his inspiring efforts towards Sustainability! Sharing his insights on the efforts done in both Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani Maldives, Sonu believes that all companies must have a purpose beyond profit where they can find opportunities to make small positive changes that do not impact negatively on the profitability or their guests’ perception on the products.
Soneva has a long history of such initiatives, from producing and bottling its own mineral water since its inception, to banning plastic bottles in 2008, establishing the Maldives' first solar farm, recycling 90% of its waste, and opening Soneva Art & Glass, the Maldives' first hot glass studio that transforms discarded bottles into works of art.
The Makers' Place, a carbon-neutral island workshop created in conjunction with British artist Alexander James Hamilton, recycles plastic and aluminum into art, utilitarian things, and building material, is one of the most recent additions to Sonu’s Regime.
With the Maldives being fragile to the harsh climate changes that are taking place, it’s truly remarkable to have such icons like Sonu putting in his maximum efforts for the course.
Congratulations from Coral Glass!
