This August, the world’s leading business-based dive training agency, Scuba Schools International (SSI), kicked off a major video production at Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa. Partnering with on-site SSI Training Center Sub Oceanic Maldives, the project goes beyond filming—it’s a collaboration aimed at reshaping dive education and promoting diversity in the global diving community.
Located in Lhaviyani Atoll, Le Méridien Maldives was chosen for its eco-conscious environment and proximity to 50 world-class dive sites. The island's thriving reef system offered the perfect backdrop for SSI’s high-quality training videos, lifestyle visuals, and updated brand content to be shared worldwide.
Le Méridien’s commitment to marine education and sustainability made it a natural partner for the project. Guests already enjoy curated dive and snorkelling activities led by Sub Oceanic Maldives, whose team has played a central role in this production. From planning logistics to filming underwater, Sub Oceanic’s expertise has been crucial. Head of Operations Florian Gansl praised the collaboration, noting the lively marine life—especially the resident turtles—added a dynamic element to the shoot.
Two instructors from Sub Oceanic, Alejandro Embid and Chun-Ping “Pyng” Lin, also feature in the production. They join four other SSI-selected professionals from around the world: Kornel Toth (Hungary), Gordos Mateo Gojunco (Philippines), Sita Angela Jaekel (Indonesia), and Jacinta Kimani (Kenya). Chosen for their experience and ability to represent diverse backgrounds, the cast brings global perspective and real-world skill to the screen.
The project covers three key areas: step-by-step skill demonstrations to upgrade SSI’s training content, authentic footage of the Maldives’ marine life, and lifestyle segments capturing the full dive travel experience. Behind-the-scenes clips are also being filmed to highlight the teamwork and dedication involved.
For SSI, the initiative marks a strategic step in modernising how dive education is delivered. By combining high-end production, elite instruction, and breathtaking locations, the partnership showcases the potential of merging luxury hospitality with world-class training. It's a move that not only elevates dive instruction but also supports eco-conscious travel and marine awareness—inviting a new generation of divers to dive in, learn, and explore.
