Catching a surf break in the most epic destination in the world has its perks. With endlessly glittering blues under the golden sun and snowy sandy shores protected by coral reefs, a vacation dedicated to surfing in the Maldives is definitely one for the bucket list. If you decide to tick off this wish in the next three months, make sure you head over to Niyama Private Islands because it recently welcomed professional surf photographer Erick Proost for a 3-month residency on the island.
Off the beaten track, one you can look forward to uncrowded waves at Nature’s Playground. Niyama is the only luxury surf resort in the Maldives with its own wave breaking right onto the shore at Vodi Point. Catching you in action while hands-on will be Erick Proost who is a seasoned cinematographer and photographer specialized in surfing and water shots. He has worked alongside world champions and professional surfers such as the likes of Adriana De Souza and Gabriel Medina and now, you can join the list!
Niyama Private Islands is the perfect getaway for tourists who wish to catch majestic waves, relax and chill out on the beach. After a day of surfing, guests can hang out with Proost on dry land at the Surf Shack, the resort’s ideal place for a little sundowner, serving up the perfect rum cocktails, and end the day to the sound of reggae softly playing in the background.
Since Dhaalu Airport was recently authorized for private jet landings, arriving at Niyama has just become the swiftest experience in the country. The island lies a smooth 7-minute seed boat ride away from the airport. Alternatively, guests arriving at the Velana International Airport can catch a direct, and scenic 40-minute seaplane ride to the resort. It can also connect to Dhaalu Airport via a 30-minute domestic flight to Dhaalu Airport.
Erick Proost is returning to the island for a third-time. His passion lies in bringing man and nature together in one epic surf shot through his specialized photographs and where best to do it than at Vodi Surf Point just at the doorstep of Niyama Private Islands?
