The celebrated resort chain, The Cocoon Collection has announced the launching of the Cocoon Foundation, aimed to improve the lives of the Maldivian community. This initiative by the hotel company brand will be primarily focused in Lhaviyani and Raa atolls where the Cocoon properties of Cocoon Maldives and You & Me Maldives are located.
The Cocoon Foundation was inaugurated at a glittering event held at You & Me Maldives on 2nd December 2022. Delivering the opening remarks, the Corporate General Manager of The Cocoon Collection, Mr. Ahmed Jihad underscored the brand’s effort to uphold the three pillars of the foundation. In this way, he outlined that work would be driven on areas of sustainability in economic, educational and environmental topics.
During the year 2022, both resorts have been actively conducting training and hosting visits from school children of nearby islands. The purpose of these endeavors was to instill the confidence and empowerment required for a career in the hospitality industry. Moreover, it also served as a means to harness the leadership qualities of the younger generation and equip them with the tools that talented individuals may need to maneuver a successful career in the field.
In addition to this, the Cocoon properties in the Maldives have also launched programs directed at increasing environmental awareness and targeting the welfare of the local communities. These commitments are carried out with tremendous support from island councils, NGOs and other stakeholders.
The Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom graced the ceremony as the Guest of Honour. Speaking at the evening, the Minister signified how the initiatives of the hotel industry are laying the groundwork for development in the region. He described this as synergy from every element that will pave the way for Maldives to flourish and prosper.
The Managing Director of The Cocoon Collection, Mr. Alessandro Azzola stated in his closing remarks “We feel so lucky to be able to be a part of the Maldives tourism industry and we want to show our gratitude with a sustainable initiative that will help the community in the long run.” Under his visionary leadership, the Cocoon Foundation will continue to make valued contributions and become a legacy that can be passed on to future generations.
The inauguration evening was attended by notable invites including the Chairman of The Cocoon Collecttion, Mr. Asgi Akbarally, Chairman of Bison Maldives, Mr. Abdul Majeed, President of Raa Atoll Council, Mr. Hussain Nasif and the President of Lhaviyani Atoll Council, Mr. Yaseen Abdulla. The evening was closed with a performance of the Cocoon Foundation’s official song, written and enacted by Maldivian artists.
