The End to Burning Waste in K. Thilafushi

Ministry of Environment aims to stop burning trash in K.Thilafushi before June of 2020. Combustion of waste carries several damages including both health and environmental consequences.

Yesterday, Environment Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan signed contract with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for the purchase of waste compactor for Thilafushi.

This will reduce the size of the waste, decreasing the impact of waste on landfills. The total cost of this waste compactor is MVR 9,665,000.00 and is expected to be brought to Thilafushi within 4 months.
