The Most Awaited Surfing Event Returns To Four Seasons Maldives For Its 10th Edition

The world’s most opulent surfing event, Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy is back to the shores of Four Seasons Maldives for its 10th edition in the island paradise. The coveted competition is resuming after a two-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. From August 24th to 29th, witness the congregation of high-profile surfers from all around the world as they surf on the Maldivian waves!

Joining in this year’s competition are mega legends in the surfing sport including the famous star-lineup of “Momentum Generation”. Featured in the all-star lineup is 11-time World Surfing Champion Kelly Slater (USA). Taylor Knox (USA), Rob Machado (USA), Shane Dorian (HAW) and Ross Williams (USA). Surfing alongside these pros are our very own Maldivian surf kings such as Hussain ‘Iboo’ Areef (MDV).

These top athletes will compete each other in a battle of the boards in the special format of the competition with single, double and triple fin events paving way for the esteemed Surfing Champions Trophy title.

Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, Director General of Ministry of Tourism, Ms. Aishath Ali and other government & resort officials took part in the opening ceremony of the event held yesterday at Four Seasons Maldives Kuda Huraa.

During his speech, Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom warmly welcomed the Surfing Champions Trophy competitors. He also remarked that surf culture is becoming increasing popular in the Maldives and is a major market for the destination. In this regard, he thanked Four Seasons Resort Maldives in not only brining the 11-time World Surfing Champion, Kelly Slater to our waves but uniting five pioneering members of “Momentum Generation” under one roof. Momentum Generation reshaped the future of surfing in the 90s by pushing the limits further paving the way forward with surfing.

Today, the sensational tournament starts at the popular surf point, Sultans (right-hand point break) with the single-fin event. So be prepared to see the best of the best trying to tame the waves that are quintessential to the Maldives.
