From 10th September 2020, it has been declared in Maldives that all tourists and other visitors, whether it is for short-term travel or for official purposes and not subjected to 14 days quarantine, are required to have a certificate of negative pre-entry PCR test result for COVID-19. This must be issued no more than 72 hours prior to departure to Maldives, starting from the first port of embarkation onto the Maldives.
The PCR certificate should bear the name and address of the laboratory that preformed the testing, result of the test, date of testing as well as name and signature of the issuing officer.
The travellers who are exempted from pre-arrival PCR test requirements are Maldivian citizens, valid employment approval or work visa holders, holders of any other resident permit of Maldives, flight crew arriving on general declaration and infants aged less than 1 year.
Moreover, according to the guidelines provided by related government authorities, possession of a PCR negative test result does not depict that passengers will not be subjected by authorities to any further screening or any other surveillance measures at the points of entry.
During the reopening of Maldives that took place on 15th July 2020, Maldives Immigration introduced “Traveller Health Declaration” to accelerate the pre-arrival process and pre-departure health information in accordance with the health requirements of the Maldives. All travellers travelling to and from Maldives are required to submit a self-declarative health declaration 24 hours before their travel.
All travellers, including tourists, work visa and other visa holders, and Maldivians are required to submit the Traveller Health Declaration which is implemented to reduce health risks and ease immigration procedures. Traveller Health Declaration has to be filled and submitted via the online portal of Maldives Immigration, “Imuga”.
