Velana International Airport Elevates Air Travel Efficiency with Cutting-edge AMHS Upgrade

In a significant stride towards technological excellence, Velana International Airport (VIA) proudly announces the successful upgrade of its Aeronautical Message Handling System (AMHS). This forward-looking move underscores VIA's dedication to leading the aviation industry with cutting-edge technology.

The AMHS, now a next-generation platform, serves as a vital communication hub, facilitating the smooth exchange of crucial aeronautical information among stakeholders in flight operations, air navigation services, and airport operations. This includes essential details such as flight plans, NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), and meteorological updates.

With an investment of approximately USD 500,000, VIA's newly integrated system, provided by globally recognized leader IDS AirNav, automates previously manual processes. This upgrade brings efficiency to tasks like flight plan approvals and filing procedures through a secure internet network. IDS AirNav has not only delivered the system but also provided necessary consultancy and training for MACL staff.

This strategic enhancement reaffirms MACL's commitment to advancing air navigation services, ensuring operational efficiency, and prioritizing the safety of air travel. Maldives National Air Traffic Services (MNATS), a MACL subsidiary, will play a pivotal role in delivering this crucial service.
