When we look at strong economies such as Singapore, years ago, their biggest investment was in Human Resource. I believe that it’s already late. Although tourism in the Maldives has grown rapidly, there are still few youth in the tourism industry especially in senior positons. In order to improve this situation, opportunities need to be increased while developing HR. A lot of work and effort is needed including career guidance and support from the government.

It is vital for the authorities to engage with the tourism industry. The industry has changed since the past. Now, there are resorts near almost every island. It is important that this provides opportunities for locals in those areas. Training programs are being developed based on this. Even now, the Ministry of Higher education is carrying out such programs. Further, career guidance needs to be provided to students in school. I believe that with the efforts being done, locals will receive more opportunities in this field.

“Concentration is the key to a successful youth”  Vice President of Maldives Faisal Naseem

In order to be a successful youth, you need to have focus as well as interest in what you do. Do it because you want to do it. Another important factor is time management. It is important to make the best use of time. I always recommend waking up early and sleeping early. Further, look at how people became successful and take notes of the mistakes in their journey. This will give you encouragement, which is extremely important for success. At last, never think that you can’t do a particular task.

“Most importantly, maintain good relationships in tourism industry”  Vice President of Maldives Faisal Naseem

When you are a General Manager, you need to know everything. I looked at the leading people in the industry and I learned from them. I tried to improve my performance always. But I believe it is most important to maintain and develop good relationships. I was also open to learning from other people, even from juniors.
