Villa Hotels & Resorts has released a blog post stating that this Earth Hour (which is on March 26th), they will be holding many conservation and environmental activities dedicated to protecting the fragile coral reef and natural sandbanks.
Earth Hour encourages everyone to keep all non-essential lights switched off from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM. As such, the resorts will be turning off all non-essential lights during Earth Hour, and guests will be offered a variety of dining options, which will be illuminated by candles and the starry sky of the night.
Guests and team members of the resorts are also invited to a variety of activities that will help pave the way for a more sustainable future. Sandbank and lagoon clean-ups will be held at each of the resorts by Qadventure watersports, while dive and snorkeling clean-ups to remove debris from the reef will be held by DiveOceanus dive centers. The plastics removed from the clean-ups will not be going to waste though, as they will be donated to Parley for the Oceans. They are an organization that pushes for recycling initiatives and global projects to address major threats to our oceans.
Villa Hotels & Resorts has already made commitments to sustainability, as preserving the natural environment and conserving the ecology of the islands is at the heart of their philosophy. The resorts already operate many energy and water-saving initiatives as a way to work towards their goal of carbon neutrality. The prestigious Green Key eco-label award has also been awarded to two of their properties; Sun Island Resort & Spa and Royal Island Resort & Spa.
