Visit Maldives Concludes Joint Webinar with Qatar Airways Targeting German Speaking Markets

Saturday 27th of March 2021

Maintaining the destination presence in key markets is one of the key survival tactics Visit Maldives utilizes in ensuring that potential travelers have the dreamy shores of Maldives on their minds. Post the global pandemic, Visit Maldives has had to adapt to new and innovative ways of marketing in order to reach wander lusters afar and one successful way of doing so has been through targeted webinars.

Last week, Visit Maldives concluded a joint webinar targeting over 407 top travel agents and tour operators from the German speaking markets of Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Qatar Airways is the largest carrier currently connecting destinations around the globe with the main gateway of Maldives, flying in the second-most number of tourists into the destination.

As routes between Germany, Switzerland and Austria resume onboard Qatar Airways, it is important to share the latest information regarding health protocols, entry requirements, and the latest travel trade information with stakeholders from these markets. Visit Maldives has continually stressed on how the unique geography of the archipelago naturally social distances the islands, where a one-island-one-resort concept is embraced to full fledge. Representatives from Qatar Airways informed on the direct and stopover connections between the markets and Maldives.

Furthermore, Baglioni Resort Maldives took part in the webinar, sponsoring a 6-nights holiday for 2 awarded to the winner of the raffle draw conducted during the webinar. Details of the 5-star property including ongoing promotions, and safety measures deployed on the island were shared with all participants. Baglioni Resort is the winner of the Best Luxury Ocean View Resort in the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2020.

The webinar concluded with a Q&A session where participants enquired about travel regulations, status of open resorts, and PCR testing procedures. The interest shown among participants indicates keen interest towards travelling to the Maldives.

Even though numerous travel restrictions have been in place since the pandemic, Germany, Austria and Switzerland have remained in 7th, 10th and 13th position respectively on the top arrivals market ranking. Several activities have been conducted specifically to entice travelers from these markets; virtual events, participation in ITB Berlin NOW 2021 in March, and publications in a popular German bridal website portraying Maldives as an ideal romantic getaway for couples and honeymooners to name a few.

Visit Maldives has planned further activities down the pipeline focusing on building more networks and spreading awareness regarding Maldives as a safe haven through FAM trips, joint campaigns with international stakeholders from the industry, and outdoor and digital campaigns.
