Visit Maldives Partners with Wego Targeting the Recovery of Middle East Market

Monday 29th of March 2021

On a mission to inspire people to travel for the real value of it, Wego has been giving millions of people more reason to travel since 2005. Currently the largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North African region, Wego has been building on the idea that everyone has an innate desire and yearning to travel.

Visit Maldives has partnered with Wego to collaborate on this very idea, and give travelers booking their holidays from Wego one more reason to travel – the irresistible safe haven of Maldives! Wego will be promoting the Maldives as one of the most preferred destinations via content-led campaigns across its digital and social media platforms. Further, exciting virtual activities will also be conducted as part of the collaboration.

“This campaign would also ensure that the Maldives is promoted not just as a romantic destination, but a holiday getaway for families & single travellers as well. We are definitely delighted to commence this collaboration and hope that our efforts in marketing Maldives will be successful,” said Managing Director of Visit Maldives, Thoyyib Mohamed. He highlighted the fact that the Middle Eastern market has been showing immense potential in growing as a promising market to the Maldives.

The Maldives is currently one of the few countries around the world with minimal restrictions against tourists arriving into the country. Tourists are not required to quarantine upon arrival; however, they need to submit an online health declaration form within 24 hours prior to departure and are requested to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test result conducted within 96 hours prior to departure.

Travellers get to seamlessly enjoy adventures across naturally social distanced islands and exclusive one-island-one-resort offerings epitomizing goodness of life even during a world pandemic. Appraising the efforts by the destination and its stakeholders in keeping the safety and wellbeing of everyone as a priority, WTTC granted the “Safe Travels Stamp” to the Maldives. Furthermore, the national vaccination drive is ongoing in full-gear, having vaccinated over 14000 frontline tourism industry service providers.

Managing Director to MENA and India market at Wego, Mamoun Hmedan spoke about the campaign. “Maldives is gaining great recognition in its efforts to make the island a safe destination for travelers. It is a very versatile destination and takes you to the sunny side of life which is much needed during the pandemic. We look forward to forging a long-lasting partnership with Visit Maldives, offering the best travel experience to our users.”
