Visit Maldives Strengthens Promotion in India

Since Maldives reopened its borders in July 2020, India has climbed up the ladder in becoming the top inbound source market for the Maldives tourism industry. Contributing to more than 1/4th of the total arrivals in the Maldives, Visit Maldives identified India’s momentum in continuing growth as a potential market and hence, has kick started a series of offline events in the market.

Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, Managing Director of Visit Maldives, Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed and a team from Visit Maldives is currently in New Delhi, India with High Commissioner of Maldives to India, Dr. Hussain Niyaz.

Yesterday, Visit Maldives held a high-level press conference followed by a Roadshow in Delhi commemorating the start of the offline promotional events organized by Visit Maldives focusing on the Indian Market.

‘Maldives: Media Meet’ press conference was attended by delegates from Maldives sharing the latest updates on the Maldivian tourism scenario with the attendees. Key travel trade and mainstream media of India and Delhi region attended the press conference. In keynotes, Dr. Mausoom and Mr. Thoyyib shared success stories of Maldivian tourism industry emerging through a global pandemic, and highlighted how India has become one of the key markets to the destination. Furthermore, updates on the vaccination programme and important information and updates for travellers were shared.

Prior to the press conference, the team of Visit Maldives held a meetings with Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI), GoAir Airlines, Thomas Cook, and Yatra to discuss collaborative efforts to promote Maldives in the Indian market.

Visit Maldives prepared the marketing messages and communication themed around Maldives being a safe post-covid destination given the many stringent health and safety protocols in place, in addition to the natural geographic social distancing between the islands playing a major role in making Maldives a safe haven for guests. The event held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Delhi concluded with dinner and a raffle draw. Raffle prizes were sponsored by Baglioni Resort Maldives and Adaaran Club Rannalhi.

From March 24 to 26, Visit Maldives will be taking part in the South Asian Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) held in New Delhi. SATTE is the leading B2B travel exchange exhibition held in India. During this 3-day event, 22 participants from 13 companies will have the opportunity to showcase their products, network with various key industry stakeholders, generate new business leads and engage in B2B sessions. The Maldives stand will be showcased at a 72 square meter stand designed to represent the beauty and the natural environment of the Maldives.

In order to entice visitors to the Visit Maldives stand, an outdoor banner is placed in a prime location at the entrance of the fair. An online quiz will be conducted on information regarding the Maldives and visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Maldives through touchless 360° virtual images and videos.
