World Renowned Tourism Expert, Professor Jafari Arrives to Maldives for UNWTO Global Tourism Summit

Professor Jafar Jafari, a well-known tourism expert, has arrived in the Maldives for the UNWTO Global Tourism Summit. Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdullah Mausoom and a team from the Ministry, as well as Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) officials, greeted Professor Jafari at Velena International Airport.

Professor Jafari is a Hospitality and Tourism Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in the United States. He got this job after graduating as a cultural anthropologist and a hotel administration graduate. He is also the recipient of an honorary doctorate. Professor Jafari will give a keynote address at the Summit's opening session.

His contribution to the academic community cuts across national and institutional boundaries. Professor Jafari holds numerous editorial board positions in addition to research and teaching, and has founded seminal journals, books, and networks in the field of tourism research.

The UNWTO Global Summit will be held at Crossroads Maldives and Paradise Island Resort and Spa from June 15th to 16th. The summit consists of three sessions; UNWTO Global Summit on Community Based Tourism – Thematic Session 1: Gastronomy Tourism, UNWTO Global Summit on Community Based Tourism – Thematic Session 2: Agri-tourism and UNWTO Global Summit on Community Based Tourism – Thematic Session 3: Community Based Tourism.

Prior to the Global Summit on 14 June, the UNWTO Ministerial Round-table on Tourism Sustainability through Innovation and Digitization in Asia Pacific will be held at Crossroads Maldives.
