World’s Largest Seaplane Operator Announces Plans to Establish ATR Operations

Tuesday 23rd of February 2021

Winning multiple recognitions universally as the largest seaplane operator in the world, Trans Maldivian Airways has been a key stakeholder in the Maldivian tourism industry. Flying thousands of travelers to their destination resorts from Velana International Airport, TMA has been flying daily to over 80 partner resorts as of now for the past 30 years. A whopping 150 flights take to the skies daily, only proving the pivotal role of TMA in the industry.

TMA has recently announced plans to further strengthen their presence in the skies with an additional 4 twin otter aircraft by the 3rd quarter of this year. This will bring their total fleet of seaplanes to a total of 60 aircrafts. Furthermore, TMA is also planning to introduce ATR aircraft to the existing fleet of twin-otters.

Seaplanes are the best way to explore Maldivian skies on a scenic photo tour enroute your destination, but its operations are limited to daylight hours. When ATR operations commence, TMA can extend service 24*7 and add routes connecting to domestic airports in the country. Madivaru Airport will be developed as a base for TMA’s ATR operations and a wheel plane hangar will be developed here for it.

Make TMA a part of your holiday in the Maldives with their private charter flights for a touch of exclusivity, and excursions never to be forgotten. From humble beginnings with just two aircrafts, TMA has grown to accommodate over half a million passengers aboard their fleet now.
