This year, there were a lot of problems associated with power cuts in Maldives. Having just 2 electricity providers in a country with an estimated population of 530 953, the country faces high dependency issues.
Yesterday, Maldives Mission NY, Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations, tweeted the priorities in improving the country’s energy security. This includes reversing dependence on imported fuel, investing in renewable energy, safe water & sanitation, providing young people with skills and support to contribute to economic growth, and improving governance mechanisms.
State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) being the main electricity provider in Maldives, Fenaka was established in 2012 as a private limited company and now serves 152 island communities under FENAKA portfolio. However, a solution to the problem of power outages in Maldives is vital as it is severe issue, especially for workplaces, families with kids and students.
