The Ministry of Tourism has announced that 467 resort employees who have been stranded in Male` due to the lockdown, unable to return to their home island, have been transferred to quarantine facilities.
After the Ministry opened registration of those employees working in resorts and stranded in the Male` City, a total 582 individuals had given their names. The Ministry had carried out a verification process to ensure that those who registered their names are actually employees from resorts. This resulted in 80 individuals being removed from the list.
Out of the 502 resort employees that had registered their names, only 35 employees have not been transferred to quarantine facilities. The Ministry stated that out of this, they were unable to contact 26 employees, and hence their transfer has been stopped. However, efforts are still being done to contact these individuals.
In their announcement, the Tourism Ministry further notes that resort employees are one of the people who have made the biggest sacrifices in the pandemic.
