Aeroflot Returns to Rediscover Maldives!

Russia had been closed for international travel for more than 5 months due to the outbreak of the pandemic, simultaneously with when Maldives closed its borders for international travel. However, whilst Maldives reopened its borders for international travel on July 15th, Russia did not, due to the mass outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which still persists in the country.

On March 27, amid the coronavirus pandemic, Russia stopped regular and charter flights with other countries and the only flights exempted were the ones to take citizens home, as well as cargo, mail, sanitary and humanitarian flights, flights of empty planes for maintenance, transit flights with landing for refueling or changing crews in Russia and flights carried out in line with individual decisions of the Russian government.

After this long break, the Russian carrier, Aeroflot, started flights to Male on September 10th and Maldives could not be happier to receive the passengers. On Thursday, the flight departed from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport and arrived to Maldives.

It has been revealed that Aeroflot will resume international flights to Maldives from 10th September onwards as per the following schedules.

Flight SU0322 Sheremetyevo - Malé on Thursdays and Sundays.

Return flight SU0323 Malé - Sheremetyevo on Fridays and Sundays.

Russia is one of the leading tourist markets in the Maldives, with the start of 2020 marking Russia as the fourth highest arrival market to the Maldives, with an increase of arrivals by 29.6% compared to January 2019. Russia is currently ranked among the top 10 countries in terms of arrivals amidst the pandemic and is expected to increase the arrivals with the recent resumption of flights from Russia to Maldives.
