While the world is fighting against travel restrictions in the global pandemic, Maldives has been setting example in dealing with the challenges, one strategic step at a time. The travel industry of the Maldives remains key to maintaining a steady economy in these trying times, hence, authorities have been at the edge of every safety and health measure taken so far.
On April 28, key industry players along with the Ministry of Health launched the nationwide initiative, ‘I’m Vaccinated’ targeting the frontline resort workers to be vaccinated at the earliest possible. As part of this initiative, vaccination centers were set up in the resorts and jabs supplied accordingly. Today, the Ministry of Tourism reports that 97% of the resort workers have received their first dose.
As of May 18, 2021, a vast majority of the industry workers have secured the first step in assuring that guests remain safe on the resort island as they are being served. Meanwhile, more than half of them – 57% - have been fully vaccinated. This milestone took immense teamwork and support to achieve. The ultimate target of the Maldives is to become the first nation to have a fully vaccinated workforce in the whole tourism industry.
