Dhawa, hosting a careful selection of contemporary hotels in the Far East is slowly gaining momentum in the Maldives by taking over the former Angsana Ihuru. Located in the coveted location of North Male Atoll, in close proximity to Velana International Airport, Angsana Ihuru has now rebranded as Dhawa Ihuru, falling under Dhawa’s handful portfolio.
The rebranding occurred at a time when the resort was introducing a new accommodation category with six opulent Beachfront Rainmist villas now forming part of the exclusive 45 villas on the island. The all-new villas each measure up to 68 square metres and constitutes a living space and an outdoor ‘Rainmist Lounge’ where a fabric mesh mat is laid out over an elevated deck.
The Dhawa brand is part of the esteemed Banyan Tree Group which operates the property Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru in the Maldives. After the takeover, the group has extended Ihuru’s dining and leisure offerings, allowing guests to make use of the facilities at the sister resort, Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru. As a result of this, the Twin Island dine-around concept was conceived for travellers to get a taste of the restaurants at its fellow property.
The Ihuru property has received some upgrades to services too. This includes the introduction of the Nest, an-all day social hub and a hallmark of all Dhawa properties. Here guests can engage in delightful conversations while sipping on refreshments. Other dining venues include Barception, a stop to indulge in local bites and cocktails while dipping toes between sand or the newly named beachfront restaurant, Nook where all-day dining takes place.
Adding to gastronomy is the Nectar delivery service, a transformative change to conventional dining! In-house guests can order bento takeout boxes curated to suit different cuisines like Japanese, Indian, Chinese, Maldivian and Western tastes and savour the sumptuous meals anywhere on the island.
Ihuru’s 8lemements Spa & Activa, the 24-hour gym and the yoga room have been preserved together with the PADI 5-star Gold dive centre. A plethora of watersports activities can still be enjoyed on the island including adrenaline-pumping windsurfing and wakeboarding adventures or the calmer kayaking and Kahan’bu catamaran. Alongside these, guests can also choose bespoke tailored excursions such as exploring snorkelling at popular sites on the house reef and holding a romantic dining experience on a deserted island.
