Biggest Russian Fleet – Aeroflot Increases Flights To Maldives!

Tuesday 7th of June 2022

Aeroflot was barred from flying to a number of countries as a result of European and American pressure over Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Aeroflot had recently begun flights to Sri Lanka, but they were later canceled. Which had resulted in an increased number of flights to Maldives.

Following the suspension of Aeroflot flights to Sri Lanka, there were rumors that flights to the Maldives would be canceled as well. The Tourism Ministry, on the other hand, stated on Monday that no such decisions had been made. Some tour operators who bring Russian tourists to the Maldives have also confirmed that the airline is not shutting down.

Because Aeroflot is currently the only airline that operates direct flights between the Maldives and Russia, a large number of tourists from Russia are expected to increase significantly from this month onwards.

After the Maldives opened its borders in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Aeroflot resumed operations on September 11, 2020. Prior to the suspension of Aeroflot flights, Russia was the Maldives' most important tourism market. Russia has dropped to third place in the market rankings since flights were halted due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. According to the Ministry of Tourism's statistics, a total of 67,088 Russian tourists visited the Maldives as of June 1.
