South Korea is one of the newest emerging source markets to the Maldives. Similar to the many destination marketing events Visit Maldives is currently conducting specifically for target markets, a digital media promotion campaign was recently launched in the South Korean market. Targeting the digital population in South Korea, Visit Maldives is promoting Maldives as a safe haven on the popular platforms Naver, Kakao Talk, Facebook & Instagram.
Adding to the marketing efforts, Visit Maldives has concluded a webinar and virtual roadshow that was held from April 14-15, 2021. Named ‘Connect with Maldives - Your Safe Haven', the webinar was a a part of greater strategy of Visit Maldives to educate travel trade on the latest information regarding Maldives, establish strong relationships with travel trade, and promote Maldives as one of the safest and most preferred destinations in the world.
Both events took place on the My Virtual Maldives platform, Visit Maldives’ virtual event management platform. The webinar was conducted in Korean language and the latest updates, guidelines, health and safety measures regarding the pandemic were highlighted with an emphasis on the natural socially-distanced islands of Maldives and the stringent measures. Moreover, significant information was shared about tourist establishments available in the destination along with highlights of the unique experiences exclusive to the sunny side of life.
The webinar concluded with an eager Q&A session that portrayed keen interest by participants in various areas such as travel guidelines, entry requirements and safety measures in place.
A virtual road show followed the webinar. Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, W Maldives, CROSSROADS Maldives, Kandima Maldives, Perfect Voyage and Splendid Asia took part in the roadshow alongside Visit Maldives. The industry partners were able to connect and network with the travel trade and share latest updates of their products and services. During the roadshow, CROSSROADS Maldives hosted a raffle draw and sponsored a holiday for the prize winner.
Pre-pandemic, Maldives witnessed over 36000 arrivals from South Korea, marking it as an essential emerging market. However, the numbers reduced to a mere 162 this year, given the travel restrictions imposed in South Korea. Nevertheless, Visit Maldives will continue to conduct promotional activities in the market to amplify the destination presence in the market and keep them enticed to visit Maldives as their preferred post-pandemic holiday destination.
