Amidst the COVID19 pandemic, the National University of Maldives has been providing support to the community in numerous ways, with the dedicated efforts of staff and students. These staff and students step forward after risking their lives, to ensure that the nation has access to needs and do as much as possible to win the battle against COVID19.
Recently, MNU handed over 200 hostel rooms in 4 campuses for isolation and for shelter. On 22nd April, VP Faisal Nasym and Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi visited MNU’s hostel “Majdhudheen Dhanaalu” which will be used to house people stranded in Male’ City due to the current lock down measures. They were received by Minister Dr Ibrahim Hassan & Chancellor Hassan Hameed.
Various faculties in the universities have contributed to the community. For instance, in Faculty of Health Sciences, staff and students from all the courses have been providing assistance directly in the frontline as well as doing relief and psychosocial support work around Maldives.
Further, MNU also published a special issue of the Maldives National Journal of Research, under the theme, “COVID-19: experiences, lessons and strategies”. MNU also created an Awareness Campaign for COVID-19 Prevention, Control, and Readiness. This features writings of staff, who have written a number of opinion pieces on Covid-19 covering its impact on economy, education, food security, health, etc., and the course and control of the disease.
