COVID19- Maldives Requests Russia’s Assistance

It has been announced that Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid had a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, on 27th April.

According to the press release by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two Ministers had discussed the challenges faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic and briefed on the measures taken by the respective governments to contain the spread of the virus and to deal with the unprecedented global health emergency.

Further, Minister Shahid and Minister Lavrov also discussed ways to overcome the economic and financial consequences of the virus and Minister Shahid requested Russia’s assistance in addressing these challenges.

Both Ministers further stressed the need for joint efforts in responding to COVID-19 and reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation and collaboration in advancing interests on areas of mutual concern.

As of April 27, 2020, Moscow accounted for the highest number of people infected with the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Russia with over 45.3 thousand cases, followed by the Moscow Oblast with approximately 9.7 thousand patients. In total, 68,622 COVID-19 cases were recorded in Russia, of which more than 7.3 thousand people were cured.
