Crew at Alila Kothaifaru Takes Their Green Initiatives Very Seriously

Environmental protection should not be a one-time event, but rather a lifelong commitment for all of us. At Alila Kothaifaru Maldives, the dedicated team takes the green approach to luxury and place sustainability at the heart of everything they do. Green initiatives have been implemented from the ground up at Alila Kothaifaru, including the preservation of up to 70% of the island's existing vegetation and the planting of as many native trees as possible.

Recently, Alila Kothaifaru Maldives, as part of its sustainability commitment, invited guests and team members to contribute to the island's and surrounding waters' health by participating in activities that will help future generations inherit a beautiful landscape. These activities are not only good for the environment, but they also give the residing guests and crew a chance to develop a genuine connection with nature.

Moreover, in collaboration with in-house guests, the crew at the resort took initiatives where they all gather to plant trees on the island in honor of World Environment Day on June 5th. Keeping with the resort’s commitment to preserve the island's existing vegetation, around 200 native trees were planted and is expected for the percentage of vegetation on the island to significantly increase by 80% in the next six months.

In celebration of World Ocean Day, guests and crew participated in a house reef and lagoon clean-up. Snorkelers helped clean up the lagoon, while divers helped clean up the house reef, and they were surprised to find 20 kg of trash consisting of plastic bottles, cans, pipe, and plastic packaging after just a 45-minute session! Worry note as the resort's on-site bottle crusher and garbage compactor will recycle these materials. The event certainly raised awareness of how critical it is to protect marine life through small, ongoing actions like these, and how each individual's contribution is critical to ensuring a sustainable future.
