Taj Exotica Renews Their Commitment on Sustainable Hospitality

Thursday 9th of June 2022

Taj Exotica Resort & Spa celebrates its spectacular location in one of the Maldives' largest natural lagoons on World Environment Day, June 5th, 2022, by wrapping up a series of activities that began on May 25th and ended on June 5th, 2022.

The initiative was timed to coincide with IHCL's 'Paathya' framework, which was launched in March 2022. Paathya (a Sanskrit word for path) focuses on Environmental Stewardship, Social Responsibility, Excellence in Governance, Preserving Heritage, Value Chain Transformation, and Sustainable Growth while driving sustainability and social impact measures across geographies.

Poster-making, sand art, photography, and video teaser competitions were among the resort's community activities themed around 'Only One Earth.' All department employees enthusiastically participated in three "clean and green" initiatives as part of the celebrations, a cleaning drive in Hulhumale’ Park, a cleaning of the Lagoon and ‘My green corner’ (personal vegetable/flower garden that staff plants and maintains).

“While we conduct plantation drives each year, our holistic endeavour this time is aligned with our unified approach under ‘Paathya’ – which aims to plant more than a hundred thousand saplings across all IHCL hotels – as a collective step towards a better tomorrow,” Expressing the gratitude over the course is the General Manager of Taj Exotica, Samrat Datta.

The resort's unwavering commitment to protecting and preserving its exquisite coral reef, one of the world's most valuable ecosystems, was a major focus of the 10-day celebrations. The 2014 'Adopt a Coral Line' program invites guests to help marine experts plant broken coral fragments in the Coral Line Nursery, restoring the beauty of the ocean.

The goal of the program is to get guests involved in the resort's ambitious and collaborative Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Protection program, which began in 2004. Taj has fostered intensive studies on the delicate equilibrium of the Maldivian ecosystem, which is crucial to monitoring biodiversity resources on the archipelago, thanks to the capable instructors at OCEAN – a PADI 5 Star Diving and Water Sports Centre passionately involved in conservation.
