Yesterday, Dhiraagu announced that they have partnered with Ocean Geographic and the Ministry of Tourism to extend support to the Underwater Reef Assessment Photo Competition. The photo competition forms part of the festivities held to commemorate the Golden Year of Tourism in the Maldives. Set to commence on the 21st of this month, the competition marks the beginning of an annual event organized to conduct health check-ups on the Maldivian reefs. The Ministry of Tourism invited all ambitious local divers and oceanholic visitors to take part in this fun-filled activity.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdullah Mausoom stated “We thank Dhiraagu and Ocean Geographic for their partnership and also acknowledge the engagement and support of MADO (Maldives Alliance for Dive Operators) for this event to celebrate 50 years of Maldives’ Tourism. Our reefs are a major part of what attracts visitors to the Maldives. through this competition, we hope to draw attention to our unique marine environment while also ensuring its health for years to come.”
The first edition of the photo competition will take place at 50 pre-selected signature dive sites in the Maldives. On that day, contestants will be submitting thousands of photos taken from prime locations in the country from morning 0730am to 1730pm in the evening. A portfolio of 5 pictures must be submitted at every site adhering to the given criteria. At each dive site, 1st, 2nd and 3 distinguished mentions will be selected from among the pictures and awarded prizes. With international judges presiding over the selection process, winners will be announced live on 29th October 2022.
