Equator Village, located on the upper tip of Addu Atoll’s heart shaped landmass, celebrated 21 years under Kaimoo. The popular hotel which first opened its doors to tourists in 1983, was taken over by Kaimoo in 1999.
Equator Village comes with intriguing history, making the resort extremely unique. Former Royal Air Force Sergeants’ Mess from 1956-1976, when the British operated an airbase in Addu, Equator Village still boasts the old colonial buildings and pretty English flower gardens. The resort is also one of the few resorts that is connected to local islands – via the Addu causeway. This means guests can hop on a bicycle and explore neighbouring island villages and beaches.
“We are proud of how far we have come. I would like to thank the Equator team and our clients who visit us from all corners of the world.” said Mohamed Waheed, Resort Manager of Equator Village. “We look forward to welcoming guests back to Equator as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, please stay safe.”
Recently, the resort was upgraded and rebranded with renovations to the swimming pool, spa, and gym, as well as restaurant, bar, and reception. Equator Village has a completely new look that gives out chic and spacious feels while still retaining its historic charm.
Kaimoo was founded in 1979 and owns, operates and manages five properties in the Maldives, including three resorts and two hotels. They include Equator Village, Embudu Village, Summer Island Maldives, the Mookai Hotel and Mookai Suites.
