Asia Dive Expo (ADEX) is the biggest and longest-running dive consumer and trade show in the continent of Asia, specially curated for people in the world of diving. After a halt caused by the global pandemic, the ADEX returns for its 27th Edition held at Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore. This year the ADEX will focus on its Ocean Vision 2022, with the event dedicated to the elusive Blue Whale. The Blue Whale is currently listed as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act. From 16 to 18th September 2022, immerse in the world of diving with fun, innovative and educational activities lined up for the expo.
Among the notable speakers that are going to speak at the ADEX Ocean Vision 2022 include our Maldives very own diver, Fayyaz Ibrahim! He will be a blue economy speaker focusing on the subject of Sustainable Marine Tourism.
Fayyaz first took to the waters and dived below the surface in 1981, with his father, who was the only certified professional diver from the Maldives back then. From this historical moment that marked his debut to the world of scuba diving, Fayyaz hasn’t looked back.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Fayyaz also decided to pursue his career in diving and kick-started his profession in 1997, almost 16 years after his first dive. He became a PADI instructor in the early 2000s, in 2001 and had a growing passion to teach scuba diving to people.
During his early career, he worked on liveaboard dive safaris as a dive guide and slowly progressed through the ranks, filling in positions such as captain and manager over the years. By now, Fayyaz has dived in almost all the prominent dive spots in the Maldives and owing to his expert knowledge and experience, is often hired by Superyachts to act as their country guide and dive instructor in the Maldives. In addition to this, he has also worked in some of the esteemed resorts in the country, taking up titles such as instructor and base leader/manager.
As a proud member of the Divers Association of Maldives (DAM), Fayyaz has taken part in most local diver community events conducted by the association. His unwavering dedication and commitment to diving has paved way for him to represent the DAM on various occasions and landed him a seat at the DAM Exco as an advisor.
In October 2009, during the first-ever cabinet meeting that was held underwater, Fayyaz was assigned as the instructor and dive buddy of then President Mohamed Nasheed- a special privilege he obtained as a diver.
He is currently operating his own dive centre, namely Divers Lodge Maldives, a PADI 5* IDC centre. At the centre, Fayyaz is fulfilling his long-lived dream of teaching scuba diving to both locals and foreigners, training them in the field of professional and recreational diving. He has been doing this valuable work for a few years now.
