One of the pioneers of Maldivian tourism, well-known George Corbin and his daughter, Georgina Corbin, was awarded the Gold Tier (Abaarana) under the Maldives Border program.
This is very significant as this is the first time the Gold Tier has been awarded to tourists.
At a ceremony held at Velana International Airport's VIP Lounge during the conclusion of George's official trip to the Maldives, Adam Naseem, another pioneer and Minister of tourism in the Maldives, presented the status to the Corbins. Both pioneers met way back in 1971, at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Maldives. They worked together with a few more other people to introduce the Maldives to the rest of the world.
Maldives Border Miles is the world’s first destination loyal program. Gold Tier or Abaarana Tier is the highest tier in the three-tiered program. Members of the tier will be privy to free VIP services at Velana International Airport. Moreover, discounts and offers will be offered to members at resorts and guesthouses that have partnered with Maldives Border Miles.
Georgina Corbin, George's daughter, was the youngest tourist to arrive in the Maldives during the industry's inception in the Maldives. She arrived with her father in 1972.
