Four Seasons Launches Bodu Huraa Tree Planting Project for Sustainability

Saturday 10th of May 2025

Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa has launched the Bodu Huraa Tree Planting Project, a sustainability initiative aimed at offsetting Scope 3 carbon emissions. This community-driven effort strengthens the Resort’s long-standing relationship with the neighboring island of Bodu Huraa and aligns with the global Four Seasons For Good framework, underscoring its commitment to environmental stewardship and local empowerment.

The first phase of the project, completed on April 17, 2025, saw the planting of 50 Casuarina trees along 260 meters (850 feet) of public land on Bodu Huraa. A total of 100 trees are planned for the project, with the second phase scheduled for the second quarter of the year. The initiative, carried out with approval from the Bodu Huraa Island Council, brings together the Resort’s Green Team, Grounds & Landscaping department, and local community members in a joint environmental effort.

The Casuarina trees were selected for their drought tolerance and resilience in coastal conditions. This greenbelt will enhance the local environment while requiring minimal water, striking a balance between ecological benefits and practical maintenance.

The Bodu Huraa Tree Planting Project is a key part of the Resort’s climate responsibility strategy. It represents a shift towards community-focused carbon offsetting strategies that foster cross-generational benefits. Didier Jardin, General Manager of Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa, noted, “This project reflects our shared values, mutual respect, and commitment to nurturing the place we both call home.”

Looking ahead, the Resort plans to explore more local solutions that contribute to climate action while deepening its connection with the surrounding communities.
