Green Tax Revenue Drop by 3.5% in February

Statistics further revealed the balance of Green Fund by end of 2019 was recorded at MVR782, 581,639.01.

According to the latest in Green Fund Report from Maldives Ministry of Finance, the total revenue earned through Green Tax was recorded at MVR 77,023,981.14 for February 2020. Out of which MVR 70,797,120 is from tourist resorts, MVR1, 459,554.42 from hotels, MVR2, 549,700.72 from guesthouses and MVR2, 217,606 from Safaris and liveaboards.

Green Tax is levied on all tourist properties including tourist resorts, hotels and guesthouses along with safari vessels and liveaboards. The tax is levied at USD6 per head from tourist resorts and hotels, while USD3 per person from guesthouses.

The drastic decline in tourism arrivals due to the COVID19 pandemic led to a decrease in government revenue generated from taxes, including green tax.
