On Valentine's Day this year, the beloved property of The Lux Collective, LUX* South Ari Atoll posed as the official host resort for the South-African based conservation couple, Beth Neale and Miles Cloutier as they attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the longest underwater kiss.
Beth Neale is an X 4 South African freediving champion and a conservation filmmaker. A true mermaid at heart, Beth fosters a love for the oceans and is a Pure Apnea Master freediving instructor and a Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) certified advanced scuba diver. Together with her husband, who is a renowned director, the couple took their love story to new limits this February 14th by breaking the previous world record for the longest underwater kiss of 3 minutes 24 seconds and 34 frames set in Italy in 2010.
The new record established by Beth and Miles stands at 4 minutes and 6 seconds and took place at the bespoke property of LUX* South Ari Atoll in the Maldives. By breaking this world record, the couple hopes to inspire others to fall equally in love with the underwater world and its magnificent splendour. They believe that the oceans need all the love and care possible to protect and safely deliver them to future generations.
The event was attended by the Guinness World Records Official Adjudicator, Mr Swapnil Dangarikar who confirmed the new mark for the record. The resort celebrated the accomplishment by showering the couple with a champagne ceremony on the island and they were also welcomed with a pleasant surprise by Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) on their way back home too.
Speaking on the achievement, Beth shared gladly “Breaking a Guinness World Record for the longest underwater kiss at LUX* South Ari Atoll is a dream come true -it is the world’s most romantic destination resort and the pinnacle of eco-conscious luxury. Surrounded by pristine ocean thriving with life, it is a true island paradise with no better destination to share our underwater love story!”
An enthusiastic Miles commented “It is such a privilege to partner with The Lux Collective, which shares our goal of promoting sustainability and ocean conservation. The infinity pool overlooking the ocean was the perfect location for this world record-breaking kiss. We feel that Valentine’s Day is the best time to share our new record, as it’s a reflection of our love for the underwater world and for each other. And what better way to make the moment last than with a 4-minute kiss!”
General Manager of LUX* South Ari Atoll, John Rogers remarked “Our heartiest congratulations to Beth and Miles! It is an honour to witness the achievement, and LUX* South Ari Atoll is proud to be associated with Guinness World Records and to be part of this award-winning moment.” As a premium romantic destination for couples, the property is a top location for weddings and honeymooners and offers a plethora of one-of-a-kind romantic experiences while still staying true to its eco-luxurious commitments.
