Artist Partner, Louis Nicolas Darbon has unveiled a bespoke painting at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands depicting the iconic Kerry Hill-designed water villas featured on the property. The villas showcase the epitome of the resort’s sustainable architecture and design, and the painting will be a prized addition to The Ritz-Carlton Maldives’ stellar art collection.

The London-based French artist and famed jet setter draws inspiration from visual stimulation that he attains while exploring new and familiar locales. Darbon’s signature style merges vibrancy and pop art and his piece for the resort was unveiled to guests during the resort’s Defining Moment while a stunning Maldivian sunset transformed the horizon for an extravagant evening.

The shimmering turquoise lagoon and swirling ocean breezes served as his muse for the painting, as he captured the fine lines and sweeping curves of the water villa architecture through his masterful strokes. Darbon etched every minute detail onto his paintings from where the water, landscape and breeze flow around and between the spaces to where each villa overlooks the endless vistas of the horizon.

Speaking on the painting inspired by the resort’s ingenious architecture, Darbon commented “Architecture has always been a big inspiration for my art and the first time I saw the Kerry Hill designed water villas at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands I knew that this was a place that I just had to visit. It was an honour to have the opportunity to paint my own interpretation of this stunning design and to be able to spend some time immersing myself in the resort and its beautiful surroundings.”

Speaking further he says “This is a place where you truly feel at one with nature and it’s impressive to see the steps that have been taken to ensure the resort has a low impact on the environment. From the pioneering pre-fabricated design methods used to reduce the impact on the fragile reef ecosystem to the extensive use of solar energy and sophisticated glazing to avoid unnecessary air-conditioning use, The Ritz-Carlton’s commitment to building and running a sustainable island ensures the resort really respects its surroundings.”

Darbon has exhibited his work worldwide with some of his signature pieces having found residency at luxury homes of private collectors and acclaimed international galleries. As for this piece, it will find its place in the opulent oceanfront Ritz-Carlton Estate, a massive 16,000 sq. ft villa that can accommodate up to six adults and comes along with exquisite spa treatment rooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, cutting-edge entertainment systems and technologies and most importantly, unobstructed views of the Indian Ocean.
