Hajja Nazwa’s Stitched Stories Take Center Stage

Saturday 6th of December 2025

Threading Time is a single art exhibition by the Maldivian artist Hajja Nazwa that is introducing a new artistic touch to the Maldives, which is being launched by the Oaga Art Resort. The exhibition opens on December 5, 2025, in the Moo Gé Gallery and is on display until January 6, 2026 and provides visitors with an opportunity to visit a body of work based on memory and everyday life, as well as the beauty of the moments on the Island.

Threading Time is an exhibition that unites 55 embroidered photographs and most of them are inspired by the common view of scenery in the Maldivian culture, and the ordinary landscape. By her combination of photography and hand-stitching, Hajja records in silence, of colourful urban details, and of tranquility, which is the hallmark of the urban life of the island. She refers to it as a gradual, contemplative recycling of the things that make her, and thus providing the room to relate with her memories through thread and image.

Ahmed Sobah has taken a lot of care in selecting the pieces so that the exhibition gives due credit to the warm, detailed, and thought-provoking nature of the work of Hajja.

The inaugural will be a pay event, including a guided visit with the artist, dinner in Kaa Kada, nighttime entertainments, and round trip transfer speed boat. Subsequently, the exhibition will be left open to any visitor of the resort.

The performance, which is hosted at Moo Gé, the vibrant movement and creativity centre in Oaga, will reaffirm the commitment of the resort to promote local talents and provide valuable cultural experiences. Oaga Art Resort has remained a place of creativity in the Maldives with its comprehensive package based on art, exploration, and life on the island.
