The joyous day was concluded with an exciting scuba dive carried with the help of Deep Blue Divers and the Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI). This experience proved to be very thrilling for all participants, resulting in a very successful PADI Women’s Dive Day!
Seagrass Surveys
The month of July also saw the initiation of the annual seagrass surveys conducted by the MUI. This year, Six Senses Laamu celebrates five years of protecting seagrass populations around the island of Olhuveli and is enthusiastic to discover what ecosystems have benefitted from their habitat conservation project. Since 2019, MUI has started to monitor seagrass meadows within the Six Senses Laamu Lagoon and aims to carry out heavy research into the seagrass and its habitant animals as well.
Along with local interns, this year marked an extensive data collection effort with three different types of surveys conducted to study the seagrass populations. A total of 23 hours were spend in surveying with more than 400 quadrat data points collected.
