Heart-to-heart with A Resident Yoga Guru in the Maldives

Wednesday 4th of August 2021

When she got the offer to work in the Maldives, Lamirse da Motta Pacheco immediately said YES. The opportunity presented as a pathway for Lamy to share her knowledge with others in a setting that is as irresistible. Her passion for Yoga speaks for itself and there is nothing Lamy would rather do than to help integrate just one little adjustment in your daily routine for the change of a lifetime.

The journey that led Lamy to Yoga starts at a point in her life when the reality of uni, two jobs, and an active lifestyle together got the best of her. The busy schedule burned her out and when Lamy sought medical attention for her deteriorating health, she was taken aback when the doctor posed the question, “Do you keep active?”. Lamy is a gymnast, does physical exercise every day and yet, it was not enough.

So, what’s the catch? A holistic connection with yourself. Just keeping active does not mean that your mind and body are in the same place. Lamy needed to find peace of mind in addition to being physically fit, and a friend of hers then suggested Yoga. Since then, Lamy has not looked back.

Branch out into a multitude of modalities, Yoga is an expansive form of self-discovery. Lamy was completely amazed by the power of the discipline and it soon became a habit for her. Her family and friends encouraged her to take the new lifestyle further after noticing how it had improved not only her lifestyle, but her perspective on life as well, and so, Lamy quit her corporate job to become a licensed Yogi.

Lamy is the first registered Yoga teacher from her motherland, Manaus region in the Amazon, Brazil. She learned the art and trained in India, and was teaching in New Zealand before packing for the Maldives. What drew her here was the natural ambiance and perfect backdrop in the archipelago. Not to be taken for granted, the oceanfront, salty breeze and the gentle sound of lapping waves is a major contrast when compared to the chaotic city life for anyone who has not been to the destination before.

Now working as a Resident Yoga Guru in Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi, Lamy invites all guests to disconnect from the intense and stressful routines and connect with the elements of nature – sun, sea, wind and sand, all abundantly available in the Maldives! She offers a generous variety of Yoga classes and sessions to enthusiasts of all ages, sizes, nationalities, and experience in Yoga.

Beginning with sunrise sessions, Lamy’s classes can be taken up on beach (strongly suggested by Lamy as it's her fav) or at the Wellness Center on the island. The types of yoga can vastly range from stretching, relaxing, active, therapeutic, and to so many more. They are curated to suit guest requirements, be it for couples who are looking to have a slow-paced activity to connect with each other on their honeymoon, teens curious to experience and understand Yoga, and even the elderly who seek therapeutic relief for their difficulties.

The newest edition to the Yoga offerings at the resort is the dynamic art of Aerial Yoga, a trendy and also now the most demanded activity among guests. It is definitely an experience to take home that sparks one’s curiosity to have tried it while on holiday in the Maldives. Lamy says that it is loads of fun and has a tonne of benefits as well.

As Lamy would describe it, Yoga is about finding a personal connection to what this philosophy has to offer for you. There are no strict rules as to sticking to a diet plan, or a schedule, but rather learning how to challenge your capabilities and realizing your potential by practicing Yoga every day. The connection you make with yourself will teach you about your boundaries and how to confidently embrace best traits.

Lamy loves teaching Yoga and being in Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi is a dream come true. Her vision is to pass on her knowledge specially to kids, who are our future. If she could play a part in guiding them to building a stable mindset to face the challenges of the real world, Lamy would believe that she has done her job well. With Maldives having all the traits to become a Wellness Destination in the world, you are very likely to find Lamy reaching out to the local community with her passion soon.
