Visit Maldives is collaborating with Iberia Airlines, Spain's national airline, to promote Maldives as a top-of-mind destination for Spanish travelers. Earlier this year, Visit Maldives attended FITUR, Spain's largest tourist trade show, to promote the Maldives.
Maldives holds the position as Iberia’s first Indian ocean destination and the route will increase the arrival figures from Spain and Southern Europe market within the next few months. Iberia Airlines, began direct flight operations between Madrid and Male' on July 3, 2021, with 218 people onboard Iberia's inaugural trip to the Maldives.
The combined marketing effort will assist to increase arrivals from Spain and improve destination footprint throughout Europe and Latin America. The campaign's goal is to encourage and inspire visitors to book Maldives vacations for their next summer vacations, which will assist the Spanish market rebuild and recover following the pandemic's travel restrictions.
As part of this campaign, an exciting online auction for a plane ticket from Madrid to Male' will be launched. Throughout the campaign, the Maldives will be promoted on Iberia's Instagram profile through photos and stories, as well as in a number of renowned travel trade websites and publications.
Maldives will be displayed on Iberian Airlines boarding cards and marketed in the business class as part of the onboard activities. Iberia Airlines' homepage will include a Maldives main banner, and Maldives will also be highlighted in Iberia's newsletters.
As of May 2021, the Maldives has received approximately 6,249 tourists from Spain, making it the 13th most popular destination in the country. Arrivals from Spain are projected to grow in the coming months, thanks to direct connectivity from Madrid to Male'.
