The Year 1953

For the first time, a President in Maldives (Ameen Didi) becomes Imam for Friday prayers.

The Year 1957

In Velidhoo, Moosa Didi’s boat ‘Kurangi’ drowns and led to death of 7 people.

The Year 1958

Mohamed Jameel Didi was given the position of Chief Judge.

The Year 1962

Foreigners were no longer given permission to live in capital city of Malé.

The Year 1980

The first hotel on a national level, Hotel Eliya was opened in Malé.
